Back in the summer, on a visit to Bristol, I met up with Alan, Chris, Phil and Gill for the first time in over twenty years. I'd like to say that Time and Life had ravaged them and that they didn't look a shadow of their former selves .... but I'm afraid that they hardly looked any different at all from the time we played football over the 'Rec.' and all went to Argyle on a Saturday night. (Sorry Gill, but I can't remember you playing football over the Rec!) Middle age has not so much crept up on us all as charged mercilessly up and clobbered us from behind. There's the tell tale widening round the girth, the thinning of the hair, the wrinkles ..... but the rest of them looked normal! A very pleasant evening
was spent in the Warwick reminiscing over the odd pint or two (hence the
widening of the girth!). We talked about where to hold the Reunion. The
Rugby Club on Duncombe Lane was front runner but lost out because it was
doubtful whether we could have it to ourselves. We decided not to go for
the Warwick just in case Brian fell down the stairs again! Then Alan suggested
the Chequers. We went to have a look. It turned out that the Landlady
had once been to the Youth Club in the early 60's. Our minds were made
up. The Chequers it will be!
